Are you a cereal-a-holic like my family? We certainly love our cereals. The cereal aisle can be pretty misleading – successful marketing tactics and a very long list of ingredients you probably can’t pronounce. However, there are a few cereals we do love that I would certainly say are nutritionist approved.

Healthy Cereals You Can Buy:

  1. This Ezekiel Cereal. The cinnamon raisin is a hit. The almond or golden flax is another great option – just add some maple syrup to add more sweetness if desired!
  2. Sprouted Brown Rice Cacao Cereal. A hit in our household for many years. You’d never believe it’s as healthy and tasty as it is!

Why Rice Cakes?

Rice cakes give the same cereal texture and crunch as regular cereal. I prefer to buy the plain rice cakes from this brand and then add my own drizzle of sweetener – namely maple syrup. These are a fantastic gluten free option with a very minimal ingredient list. This also means – yup, much less processing and added fillers. Again, highly recommended to buy plain rice cakes and add your own twist to the recipe as I did here.

Prep Tips

Honey sometimes hardens when added to something cold whereas maple syrup blends perfectly. Any other sugar or sweetener will have a gritty taste and texture.

Crumble rice cakes as small as you desire. When you add the maple syrup on top as the last ingredient, make sure you mix well so it combines with the milk.

Ingredients

  • 2 whole rice cakes crumbled into bite size pieces
  • 1/2 c. nut milk of choice add more if desired
  • 3 tbsp. pure maple syrup add more if desired

Instructions

  • Crumble rice cakes with hands and place into a bowl.
  • Add milk of choice (I use almond milk normally). Then drizzle the maple syrup on top. Add more if desired. Stir well so that the maple syrup is mixed well into the milk. Enjoy!
